Covid-19: no lockdown but tightened measures instead

Latest News

The government is currently foregoing the implementation of a new lockdown, but it will be the week of the last chance, announced Jean Castex after a Defense Council meeting at the Elysée.

Here are the key points from the Prime Minister’s address:

• France will close its borders to non-EU countries starting Sunday, “except for compelling reasons,” in an effort to curb the spread of the epidemic. “All entries into France and any departure from our territory to or from a non-European Union country will be prohibited, except for compelling reasons, from midnight on Sunday,” stated Jean Castex.

• A negative PCR test will be mandatory to enter France from an EU country, except for cross-border workers.

• Non-food shopping centers over 20,000 square meters will be closed from this Sunday.

• Detection tests are strongly recommended, and the vaccination campaign is being bolstered (provided the availability of vaccines allows). To date, 5 million people have been vaccinated.
