During a visit to Orly airport, the Director-General of Health, Jรฉrรดme Salomon, presented on Friday, August 20, the conclusions of a study conducted by the Directorate of Research, Studies, Evaluation, and Statistics (Drees), which demonstrates the effectiveness of vaccines.
According to the various statistics compiled by Drees, between August 2 and August 8, “the number of positive RT-PCR tests per 100,000 unvaccinated inhabitants is nearly 400, whereas it is only a little over 50 per 100,000 vaccinated inhabitants,” the report indicates, which is eight times less. “Unvaccinated individuals account for 76% of those testing positive (compared to 12% for those fully vaccinated), while they make up 38% of the total resident population (47% for the fully vaccinated),” the report specifies.
According to Drees, the positivity rate of tests for unvaccinated people is two and a half times higher than for fully vaccinated people. The testing rate is also higher for the unvaccinated due to the application of the health pass.
But the differences between vaccinated and unvaccinated populations become even more visible as the disease worsens. At the beginning of August, “the admissions to critical care per 100,000 people are 11 times lower among fully vaccinated people than among unvaccinated people,” the report states. “Unvaccinated individuals account for 84% of critical care admissions and 76% of conventional hospitalizations during the first week of August,” it is specified.
“Vaccination significantly reduces the risk of being in critical care,” declared Jรฉrรดme Salomon. “This is a very important message for all populations who may still doubt the importance of vaccination (…) There is a genuine protective impact of vaccination with the vaccines we have in France,” he added.
