The death toll now stands at 30,296 since the outbreak began in France. Day by day, the Scientific Council is becoming increasingly alarmist: “we can tip over at any moment.” Even though the number of hospitalized patients has once again been revised downward, from 5,198 patients at the beginning of the week to 5,162 this Tuesday, the number of patients in intensive care continues its slow increase (388 compared to 384 according to the previous report). This rise in the number of people requiring significant care over two consecutive days is a first since the beginning of April.
While Christian Estrosi announced this Monday the obligation to wear masks on the main streets of the city of Nice, in Paris, Mayor Anne Hidalgo has also asked the police prefect to make mask-wearing mandatory in several public spaces, notably along the banks of the Seine and open-air markets. Other major cities like Toulouse and Lille have also made mask-wearing mandatory for movement starting today.
