Monegasque cyclist Victor Langellotti won the Monaco time trial championship and road race. The only Monegasque rider entered, the 31-year-old professional competed in both events as part of the Spanish championships thanks to an agreement between the federations of the two countries.

Victor Langellotti became this weekend double champion of Monaco in road cycling. The 31-year-old rider claimed the time trial title, then the road race title. In both cases, no other Monegasque was at the start.

To allow the national championship to take place, the Monegasque Cycling Federation concluded an agreement with the Spanish Federation. The two events were thus held at the same time as the Spanish championship, on a course laid out in Aragon. More than 100 Spanish riders started alongside Victor Langellotti.

The Monegasque had to finish both races to validate the national titles. Mission accomplished. During the road race held on Sunday, June 28, Victor Langellotti completed the 212 km race in 5h08’57 with a lag of 8min38 from the Spanish winner, Marcel Camprubi. A time that would have placed him in 47th place in the Spanish event standings.

A first national champion’s jersey

A few days before the road race, Victor Langellotti had already won the Monaco time trial championship, again being the only competitor.

At the finish, the new Monaco champion praised the organization set up between the two federations: “I am very happy and proud to be able to wear this jersey for a year. I really want to thank the Spanish Federation for giving me the opportunity to participate in my national championship. Since I am the only player from my country, unfortunately, I cannot participate in a championship being alone. So I am very pleased and very honored by the Spanish Federation for making this possible. I am very proud and I hope to carry high the colors of Monaco throughout the year.”

The situation sparked numerous reactions on social media. The famous media the French Loose Federation notably published: “Congratulations to Victor Langellotti, who confirmed that the most important thing in life was to participate.”

Under the colors of the prestigious Netcompany Ineos team for just over a year, Victor Langellotti won a stage of the Tour of Poland in August 2025. The Monegasque should now start the Vuelta 2026, his first Grand Tour. The event will start this year from Monaco, where the national champion will wear his jersey during the season.
