Despite part of the year being under lockdown (Tuesday, March 17 – Monday, May 3), drug trafficking persisted in the azure capital and even worsened.
In 2020, there was a sharp increase in the number of drug trafficking-related arrests (+100% compared to 2019), but 2021 was even more significant with an increase of 156% compared to the previous year.
According to Anthony Borrรฉ, the first deputy mayor in charge of security, out of the 8,015 arrests conducted by the municipal police this year, 2,056 individuals were apprehended for drug-related offenses.
However, the increase in these figures does not necessarily indicate whether it represents a rise in drug-related offenses/trafficking or more efficient actions by the Nice police services.
Nonetheless, it is evident that the municipality is increasingly acting to dismantle traffics, often active in the same areas of the city.
Indeed, several operations have been conducted on Rue Trachel (near the station), Route de Turin (Pasteur District), Les Moulins (Nice-West), l’Ariane (Nice-East), or Las Planas (Nice-North).
However, trafficking persists in these places and has not yet been permanently dismantled, while the complaints from residents are becoming louder.
