The center of Italy has been severely affected by a major earthquake which, according to a preliminary report, has already claimed 73 lives*, resulted in numerous injuries and missing persons, and caused considerable material damage.
In a statement, the president of the PACA Region responds to this new tragedy that affects him personally, as his family is originally from Umbertide, a town in the Umbria region.
“At a time when emergency services are still in the midst of interventions, I want to tell the people of Umbria, our neighbors, how much our thoughts are with them in this tragedy and extend all my solidarity to them. We do not forget that many of the Italians living in Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur are originally from this region, which is therefore very close to us.
This is why I have immediately asked the regional community services to study the support measures that could be deployed as part of the region’s international humanitarian aid. We stand alongside the authorities and inhabitants who are going through this painful ordeal.”
