The National Monuments Network offers two locations in the department where children can celebrate Easter on April 24th by searching for clues and solving riddles related to History, architecture, and the great figures who lived there.

The Trophy of Augustus in La Turbie

The tradition of giving eggs dates back to ancient times. Egyptians and Romans would give painted eggs in spring as a symbol of life and rebirth. What could be more tempting than continuing this tradition in a place commemorating this Roman origin? The Trophy of Augustus in La Turbie is an ideal spot for the hunt. Erected in the year 6 BC in honor of Octavius, Caesar’s nephew and the future Emperor Augustus, the monument overlooks the Bay of Monaco and stands as the highest point of the ancient via Augusta. Your children will learn, among other things, that the Trophy is part of a sanctuary landscape dedicated to Héraclès Monoïkos (which gives Monaco its name). You can reach it from Nice (about twenty kilometers away) by taking exit n°57 of the A8.

The Monastery of Saorge

Another destination is the Monastery of Saorge on the road to Tende. There, children might be touched by the tranquility of this ancient monastery. They will walk in the footsteps of the former Franciscan monks who settled there in 1633 during the time of the Catholic Reformation. A vibrant testimony of Baroque architecture, the monastery overlooks the Roya Gorge to the north of Menton.

Whichever of these two excursions you choose, your children will leave enriched, educated, and with full bellies!

The traditional ones

More classic but just as delightful, the egg hunts in Valberg and Isola 2000 will allow children to get fresh mountain air. The egg hunt will start at 3 PM on April 24th in Valberg and will be accompanied by a snack in the Mercantour gardens. The one in Isola 2000 will take place on April 25th.

In Nice too, there will be eggs! On April 20th, at Viguier Park (bd Franck Pilatte), children will gather at 2:30 PM (ages 5 to 7) or at 3 PM (children over two years old). Phoenix Park will host an egg hunt on the 23rd, 24th, and 25th of April. Children up to 6 years old will play in a specific area made of straw bales. Older kids will embark on an adventure course filled with animal and floral riddles…

Easter Animation in Monaco

The exceptional “Océanomania” exhibition has been running since April 12th. Take your children to discover Mark Dion’s impressive cabinet of curiosities with the workshop “Twenty Thousand Eggs… under the Seas”. Every day at 3 PM, from April 16th to May 1st, the Museum offers a real clue hunt that will allow you to dive into the unsuspected treasures and secrets of the Museum’s collections. At the end of the adventure, for the youngest ones, some chocolate treats await…
