Last Thursday, students from the five pilot schools participating in the “common school dress code” experiment presented the school uniforms that will be worn starting next school year.
At Alphonse Daudet College in Nice, the future unique school uniforms that will be implemented from the next school year were unveiled. During the experiment, 1,700 students will participate from five schools in the Alpes-Maritimes: Collège des Merveilles in Saint-Dalmas-de-Tende, Collège l’Eau Vive in Breil-sur-Roya, Collège Jean Franco in Saint-Etienne-de-Tinée, Collège les Mimosas in Mandelieu-la-Napoule, as well as Collège Alphonse Daudet in Nice.
The collection, consisting of nine pieces including polo shirts, t-shirts, zip-up jackets, and sweatshirts, features blue or white shades. It was designed by the company “Fil Rouge,” which prioritizes entirely local manufacturing and holds the “Origin France Guarantee” certification. This kit, valued at 240 euros, is fully covered by the Department of Alpes-Maritimes.
An Initiative for Equality and Inclusion in Schools
The wearing of the unique uniform aims to reduce social disparities, counteract the emphasis on appearance, and combat all forms of inequality. It also aims to strengthen cohesion among students, improve the school climate by promoting a fair working atmosphere, and foster a sense of belonging and unity within the student community.
For Éric Ciotti, “the school represents the future of the nation, it embodies the France of tomorrow.” This experiment marks an important moment for implementing a change in national educational practices. Five schools are participating in this first phase, seen as the prelude to future success.
The initial feedback from students is positive, highlighting an increased sense of belonging, a reduction in social inequalities, support for disadvantaged families, and increased comfort in the school setting. This participatory and positive approach paves the way for a more inclusive and egalitarian educational future for all.
