To encourage students to become more engaged participants in their cultural awakening, the City of Nice, in partnership with the region’s independent booksellers, organized the second edition of the Youth Literary Prize. This innovative initiative aims to transform students from Nice into genuine members of a jury, invested in reading and culture.
Four books, carefully selected by local booksellers, were given to nearly 250 students from 9 sixth-grade classes from the Antoine Risso, Roland Garros, Maurice Jaubert, and L’Archet middle schools, as well as fifth-grade classes from Rothschild 1, Marcel Pagnol, Jean Macé 2, and Jean-Marie Hyvert schools. Among the selected books are:
- “Les Papiliers, Le Petit Peuple des livres Tome 1: Au Vol” by Lenia Major (Gulf Stream editions)
- “Diégo aime Julie” by Sophie Grenaud (Rouergue editions)
- “Suzanne Griotte et le parc aux limaces” by Thibault Bérard (Gallimard jeunesse editions)
- “Les mercredis de Léo” by Yaël Hassan (Syros editions)
The deliberation for the winner of the Youth Literary Prize took place in the presence of the author and patron Susie Morgenstern, on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. This year, the big winner is “Suzanne Griotte et le parc aux limaces.” The winner, Thibault Bérard, will be awarded a prize of 1,500 euros. The award ceremony will be held in June, during the prestigious Nice Book Festival.
This initiative, which offers young readers the opportunity to discover and debate contemporary literature, is part of the City of Nice’s commitment to promoting reading and culture within the educational community. By encouraging students to immerse themselves in the world of books, this Youth Literary Prize aims to nurture their intellectual curiosity and strengthen their connection with the world of literature.
