It is therefore reminded that animals ritually sacrificed can only be slaughtered in an abattoir approved by the Prefect, under the supervision of health inspectors from the departmental directorate for the protection of populations.

In the Alpes-Maritimes department, the Puget-Théniers abattoir is reserved primarily for professional butchers, with a temporary abattoir located in Escragnolles.

Meat from these authorized abattoirs is marked to guarantee its safety and suitability for human consumption.

Consumers are reminded that “Halal” meats are also available through official channels and in specialized butcheries.

Furthermore, foot-and-mouth disease, a highly contagious epizootic disease, is currently spreading in Tunisia and Algeria. Therefore, a prefectural decree n°2014-49 has been issued regarding the limitation of movements of ovine species to prevent the introduction of the disease into the Alpes-Maritimes department.
