As part of a regional-scale program, 20 Collective Reception Centers for Minors from the Alpes Maritimes are committed to education on the environment and Sustainable Development.

dsc_0397_1_.jpg The social center La Ruche welcomed 20 other leisure centers from Alpes-Maritimes to present their projects on the themes of Environment and Sustainable Development.

The associations, Planète Sciences Méditerranée, the Marine World Discovery Center and the CPIE of Lerins and Pays d’Azur, are the driving forces behind this initiative, which aims to support the preservation of the environment by launching large-scale projects and to highlight the daily work of the directors and facilitators of the Collective Reception Centers for Minors (ACM).

In 2012, this young program was born from a decision by the Concentration Platform for Education on Environment and Sustainable Development in Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur: supporting the emergence of local skills hubs capable of informing and assisting the Collective Reception Centers for Minors in their projects (for Education on Environment and Sustainable Development).

To this end, four departments of the PACA region benefited from this call for projects (Vaucluse, Var, Alpes Maritimes, and Alpes Haute Provence) with the objective of training and supporting the projects of 20 ACMs per department, or 80 ACMs at the regional level.

In the Alpes Maritimes, two skills hubs (Planète Sciences Méditerranée on the one hand, the CPIE Iles de Lerins and the CDMM on the other hand) will lead this mission by each accompanying 10 ACMs.

The program spans two years (2013-2014) and is divided into several phases of action. These include organizing training for directors and facilitators of the centers on various topics such as biodiversity, renewable energies, water… or networking with local partners (EDF, water agency, POLEAZUR PROVENCE, Regional Direction of Environment, Ministry of Sports, Youth, Popular Education, and Community Life, also the PACA region).

After Family and School, the Collective Centers for Minors hold a place in the time of non-formal education. They allow children and young people to weave sensitive connections with their environment from an early age, which are essential to appreciating the ecological, biological, cultural, and heritage value of ecosystems and, obviously, understanding what unites man with his environment.
