According to the official, the migration situation requires immediate action in collaboration with the state.

Facing increasing migration pressure on the Côte d’Azur territory, the mayor of Nice has expressed the need for his city to have another administrative detention center (a closed facility to hold foreigners subject to a deportation decision, pending their forced return).

“Given the lack of space, which is nonetheless essential to expel foreigners in an irregular situation,” the Nice official, in an open letter, proposed to the Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin to create a remote and temporary administrative detention center in Nice to alleviate pressure on our territory. Although he specifies that he is working with the Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes on long-term solutions, Christian Estrosi explained that “the situation is urgent and requires immediate action.” Three locations have already been identified and could meet the requirements.
