The announcement was made this Wednesday, July 5th. The French Football Federation has announced the relocation of the match between Les Bleus and Gibraltar in the Euro 2024 qualifiers.
It was the only match initially scheduled at the Stade de France for Les Bleus next season, and it will take place, against all odds, in Nice. It must be said that the mythical field of Saint-Denis will be in high demand in the coming weeks. From September 8 to October 28, it will host the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Then, in preparation for the 2024 Olympic Games starting from July 26, the stadium will undergo renovations.
Inaugurated in 2013, the Allianz Riviera stadium will host the French team for the fifth time in ten years. The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, is very enthusiastic about welcoming the band with Kylian Mbappé:
“Once again, it’s a great news for our city and for our stadium, as this fifth visit of the French team confirms that Nice truly is a great land of football and that the Allianz Riviera has established itself, since its opening in 2013, as a benchmark for hosting the finest international matches […].
The results of these 10 years are exceptional, once again proving that we were right to equip ourselves with this magnificent venue, where organizers, players, and spectators love to come because the atmosphere is fantastic and the conditions are perfect.
This choice is also the recognition of expertise and real know-how in organizing major sporting events in Nice, as this match, France-Gibraltar, will conclude an exceptional 2023 season with the Hopman Cup, the IRONMAN World Championships, and the Rugby World Cup ”.
