After placing the Green Deal at the heart of her mandate, the President of the European Commission wants to use 2021 to make Europe the leading continent in the ecological transition.


After a “blank” year, numerous deadlines are lining up in 2021, such as the One Planet Summit (which was held on January 11 in Paris) and the IUCN World Conservation Congress (International Union for Conservation of Nature) organized by France, as well as the G7 and G20 presidencies by the United Kingdom and Italy, the two countries co-hosting COP26 which will be held in Glasgow in November 2021.

At the level of European institutions, by June, the European Commission is expected to propose a package of measures to be voted on with the European climate law aimed at achieving the intermediate goal of reducing carbon emissions by 55% by 2030 compared to levels observed in 1990. By then, it will also present an initial proposal for a carbon border adjustment mechanism.
