The Government decided on Wednesday, March 18, to extend the rights to unemployment benefits for job seekers whose entitlements are due to expire during March. This is to prevent these individuals from experiencing a loss of income, as the current lockdown period does not allow them to have prospects of quickly finding new employment.
This measure will apply to:
– All job seekers receiving unemployment benefits who reach the end of their entitlement during March, whether they are seasonal workers, temporary workers, or performing artists; for the latter, this will result in deferring the “anniversary date” to the end of the lockdown period;
– Job seekers who no longer have any open entitlements and those who may have worked again during the indemnity period, thus potentially extending the duration of their entitlement to unemployment benefits; the reloading will be done at the end of the lockdown period;
– Beneficiaries of the Specific Solidarity Allowance (SSA) whose renewal occurs in March; the renewal of their rights will be assessed upon exiting the lockdown period.
The payment of unemployment benefits will be extended until the end of this lockdown period. This additional compensation will not reduce any future entitlements.
The extension will be handled automatically by Pรดle emploi and will be effective for payments made from the beginning of April. However, job seekers will still need to update their status each month as usual.
