Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at 6:30 PM – Urban Planning and Architecture Forum – Place Pierre Gautier
The Urban Planning and Architecture Forum of the City of Nice is hosting the exhibition “Nice-Torino: A Common History” until December 1, 2011. This exhibition features a series of photographs by Olivier Monge, accompanied by texts from authors Agnรจs Monge and Dominique Escribe, highlighting the intimate relationship between the two cities.
The exhibition presents a series of about forty large and small format pictures, illustrating the deep connections between Nice and Turin. For several centuries, indeed, while the County of Nice was under the aegis of the House of Savoy, the two cities significantly influenced each other in terms of architecture, art, urban planning…
In his photographic work, Olivier Monge reveals the commonalities between the two cities: colors, landscapes, forms… and presents some similarities that are sometimes striking. The photographer also takes us along the famous Royal Route connecting Nice and Turin.
Initially presented in the summer of 2011 on the Quai des Etats-Unis in Nice, the exhibition traveled to Turin in September 2011, before returning in an enhanced version to the Urban Planning and Architecture Forum in Nice.
These photos are taken from the book Nice-Torino published by Gilletta/Territoire/Hapax editions, created as part of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of Italian unity. The authors of the texts in the book are Agnรจs Monge and Dominique Escribe.
On Saturday, November 26, at 10 AM > Lecture by Dominique Escribe, historian, which will allow you to learn more about the connections between the two cities.
