A new administrative measure is expected to have a positive impact on the daily lives of the French.
Accustomed to the rigidity of administrative regulations—which often do not facilitate relations between government services and the citizen-taxpayer and fuel a sense of dissatisfaction—here is some good news: it is now possible to pay school meal bills, daycare, hospital fees, fines, or taxes at partner tobacconists, only with cash and credit card (payment by check is not possible).
This local service offers additional services to benefit users, particularly those who do not have a bank account, have difficulty traveling, or do not have internet access.
In total, nearly 5,100 local payment points in France, including about sixty in the Alpes-Maritimes, will be able to welcome users close to their homes with extended opening hours.*
What can be paid at authorized tobacconists?
All daily bills: fines, school meals, daycare, hospital fees, or taxes under €300 (for example, the public broadcasting contribution, small local or property taxes, and any taxes displaying the QR code provided for this purpose).
How does it work?
Users simply need to ensure that their notice or bill includes a “QR code” and that the phrase “payable at a tobacconist” is included in the payment terms.
Once at an authorized tobacconist (recognizable by the sign displayed on the front), the user, with their bill, scans the QR code and pays.*
