This evening, the final of the CAN will be played between the teams of Algeria and Senegal.
In Nice, there resides a large community of Mediterranean origin which, on the occasion of the semi-final, expressed their joy in an excessive manner.
In particular, nearly 300 individuals gathered at Place Massรฉna, causing trash can fires and projectile throwing, and some of them were arrested for violence.
These actions had provoked protests from citizens and were stigmatized by far-right and extreme right-wing elected officials who took advantage of the episode for a piece of political propaganda.
To prevent such infractions from recurring during tonight’s match, the Prefect has issued a decree banning demonstrations and gatherings within a perimeter that includes the central zone of the city (Gambetta-Place de la Rรฉpublique, Quai des รtats-Unis – Place Massรฉna).
Other measures regarding restrictions related to the sale, possession, and use of pyrotechnic items, the purchase, distribution, and transportation of fuels and hydrochloric acid, as well as the consumption of alcoholic beverages in public areas remain in effect.
Prevention is better than punishment. Let’s hope that everyone brings a bit of wisdom so that a celebration remains a celebration!
