For over 10 days, Greece has been facing extremely violent fires. In response to this situation, firefighters from around the world are voluntarily coming to assist, with several arriving from the PACA region.
56,000 hectares have burned in 13 days in Greece. Across the country, many fires have broken out due to temperatures exceeding 40 degrees. Although the fires near the capital, Athens, seem to have been brought under control, several areas are still engulfed in flames, such as the island of Euboea.
Yesterday, Sunday, August 8, 24 firefighters from the Alpes-Maritimes department volunteered to help their Greek counterparts.
Departing from Cagnes-sur-Mer, these firefighters traveled by truck to Ventimiglia in Italy, where they joined about a hundred firefighters from other southern regions of France. This morning, they took a boat to Greece and are expected to stay for 8 to 10 days.
