Floods: After the Disaster, the Psychological Shock

Latest News

The Council of Ministers has declared a state of natural disaster affecting 14 municipalities in the Alpes-Maritimes*.

As a result, the victims will be eligible for compensation. They must now report the damaged goods to their insurance company. The recommended time frame to make this report is a maximum of 10 days.

However, the extent of the damage is so significant that the prefecture of Alpes-Maritimes must prepare for all eventualities.

Three days after the floods, 534 firefighters are still on the ground. Since Saturday evening, they have carried out 1,422 interventions on the field.

The bad weather has left thousands of people in distress, having lost their homes and cars, leaving them both overwhelmed and disheartened.

Beyond the material damage, there is also a need to address a collective psychological shock.

The prefecture of Alpes-Maritimes urges residents to follow certain safety instructions. Additionally, a special arrangement has been set up by the police to prevent looting.

A prefectural decree bans swimming until Monday, October 12, on the coastline of the municipalities of Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Villeneuve-Loubet, Antibes, Vallauris, Cannes, Mandelieu-la-Napoule, and Théoule-sur-Mer.

The runoff water from areas particularly affected by the bad weather may carry substances or waste that could affect the quality of bathing water.
