Montpellier secured their place in the semi-finals of the Coupe de la Ligue by overcoming Nice (3-2). However, the Niçois did not give up throughout a match that could have turned in their favor. This performance is encouraging for their upcoming game against PSG this Saturday at the Ray in a sold-out stadium.
Nonetheless, Montpellier had a poor start to the match, conceding a goal against the run of play in the 22nd minute, scored by the young Bosetti, who was brilliant from start to finish. But the French champions equalized eight minutes after the opening goal, thanks to Cabella, ideally assisted by former Nice player Pitau.
Soon after the break, Montpellier added a second goal through Herrera (52nd minute), but Nice leveled the score with Bauthéac from a penalty following a foul by goalkeeper Pionnier on Maupay (66th minute).
With seven minutes remaining, Tinhan, who had come on earlier to replace Herrera, scored the winning goal with a cross-shot, thus securing qualification for Montpellier.
This Saturday will be the big event against PSG, featuring a certain Zlatan, in a sold-out Ray Stadium. The stadium will graciously welcome the capital’s galactics, who will undoubtedly not come to the Côte d’Azur for a relaxing weekend but to reclaim the Ligue’s top spot taken by Lyon, who were clear winners against OM last night at the Vélodrome (1-4).
