France will host the Women’s World Cup in 2019, FIFA announced on Thursday, March 19. The country was competing against South Korea.
This will be the first time that France will host an international women’s football competition. Although women’s football was still largely unknown in the country 20 years ago, it has recently gained a reputation for excellence following successful results.
The French bid includes 9 stadiums, to be chosen from 11 sites, including the Allianz Arena in Nice.
The opening match and the final are to be played in the new stadium in Lyon.
