Free contraception: The National Assembly votes unanimously in favor!

Female contraception will now be fully covered by social security for women up to 25 years old starting next year.

To recall, in September, Olivier Vรฉran announced his desire to extend the reimbursement of contraceptive methods to women aged 18 to 25 since it is already covered for minors.

“There is a decline in contraception among a number of young women, and the main reason is financial abandonment as it is too expensive. It’s unbearable that women have to give up contraception,” noted the Minister of Health.

During the night of Friday, October 22 to Saturday, October 23, the National Assembly unanimously adopted the project, which will be effective from January 1, 2022. The measure could affect 3 million women.

Consultations, pills, IUDs, implants, biological assessments, or even medical prescriptions will now be covered by Health Insurance.

The first solemn reading of the measures will take place on Tuesday. After the National Assembly, it will be the Senate’s turn to vote before the end of the year.
Similarly, deputies are working on the development of male contraceptives.
