From August 28 to 31: Sospel (re)makes its cinema!

Latest News

The Cinema Festival, celebrating its 11th edition this year, aims to step off the beaten path set by the big Hollywood industries. Locals from Sospel and visitors will have the chance to experience rare moments of sharing in unique settings: in the open air, on the Esplanade of the Saint Michael Cathedral, or in the multimedia room set up in the old sacristy of the Cathedral.

Opening the festival is “The Darjeeling Limited,” an American film set in India. This fable recounts the story of three brothers searching for their mother, who ultimately come to confront themselves during an adventure filled with twists and brotherhood. The other feature and short films have all been selected for their human qualities and originality. They are directed by Canadian, Israeli, German, French, American filmmakers (Carole Laure stepping behind the camera, Ari Folman, Arthur Qwak, Guillaume Ivernel, Nora Hamdi, Wes Anderson, etc.), showcasing a varied world, rich in cultural diversity, yet always full of the desire for sharing and understanding. Notably, “Waltz with Bashir” by Ari Folman, which garnered much attention in Cannes this year, will be presented on Saturday at 9 PM.

Earlier on Saturday, the day will be dedicated to short films and will feature a series of award-winning films from the major festivals like Locarno, Brussels, San Francisco, and Annecy. Once again, the “Cinema of Yesterday and Today” Association voluntarily selected the films presented. A dual challenge: to ensure the presence of cinema in a village now deprived of a permanent theater and to open the audience to the world without leaving their seats.
