ASPTT Nice Côte d’Azur is launching two new sports-health offers specially designed for seniors starting in September. The Nice club aims to diversify physical activity for those over 55 by combining outdoor water activities and small group indoor sessions.
Sports for seniors is evolving in Nice. Starting in September, ASPTT Nice Côte d’Azur launches two new offers designed for those over 55. The “Aqua Vitality” program will allow participants to practice several water activities from the Nice Water Sports Base, while Gentle Gymnastics sessions will be offered at Leyrit Hall.
Aqua Vitality runs from September to the end of June and alternates four water activities throughout the season: kayaking, catamaran, water bike, and paddleboarding. Sessions will take place every Tuesday, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Nice Water Sports Base. These activities help particularly with balance, motor skills, and muscle strengthening.
The club’s stated objective is to enable seniors to maintain regular physical activity, while benefiting from appropriate supervision and a friendly environment.
“Paddleboarding or water activities are often perceived as summer family leisure activities. Yet, for seniors, it’s tremendous work on balance, core stability, and motor skills,” explains Fabio Di Franco, communications manager for ASPTT Nice Côte d’Azur.
Participants can also complement this water activity with a weekly indoor session.
Gentle Gymnastics: reinforced strengthening
ASPTT is also implementing Gentle Gymnastics sessions for people aged 55 to 70. These will take place every Thursday, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., at Leyrit Hall, located at 16 rue Fornero Meneï in Nice.
To promote personalized support, groups will be limited to 15 participants and supervised by two qualified instructors. “This way, the educators are fully available to adapt each exercise to the participants’ abilities and any physical difficulties they may have,” clarifies Fabio Di Franco.
Sports for maintaining social bonds
Beyond physical activity, ASPTT also wants these meetings to be moments of conviviality. The club promotes sports practice “among friends”, with the aim of encouraging meetings and combating isolation.
“Seniors come to exercise, but especially to have a good time, emphasizes Fabio Di Franco. At this age, the risk of social isolation is real. Through sports, they meet a new circle of friends and become part of a collective dynamic.“
With these two new offerings, ASPTT Nice Côte d’Azur intends to diversify its range for seniors and combine physical activity, prevention, and social connection. Registrations are open for September enrollment. To book your time slot or ask questions, you can contact the team directly at 06 72 10 98 89.
