Hanukkah in Nice: Political Drift During the Official Ceremony

Latest News

This year Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, is celebrated between December 16 and 24. In Nice, a candelabra is displayed at Place Magenta at the initiative of the Chabad-Lubavitch.

Yesterday, Sunday, in the late afternoon, religious authorities and representatives of various associations participated in an official event in the presence of many members of the Jewish community.

It was an opportunity for Christian Estrosi, the Mayor of Nice, and Rudy Salles, the President of France-Israel, who were joined by numerous officials, to express their friendship for this highly influential community in Nice and the Alpes-Maritimes.

Both speakers went beyond the spiritual nature of the ceremony to affirm their opposition to all forms and acts of anti-Semitism and their unconditional support for Israel.

They also criticized the international policy of France, which they claimed lacks firmness towards Israel’s enemies.

These remarks, though off-topic, were met with applause from an audience supportive of the cause championed by the two politicians, who skillfully catered to their sentiments. Moreover, it is well known that the Jewish community strongly supports the local right-wing.

Finally, Christian Estrosi announced that on December 24, he will be in Jerusalem to meet the new president of the State of Israel.
