The Alpes-Maritimes prefecture announced the department’s shift to orange heat wave alert starting tomorrow, Monday, June 22 at 12 o’clock. This change comes after a yellow alert was triggered on Sunday, June 21 at noon.
According to forecasts provided by state services, maximum temperatures will reach between 34 and 37°C, particularly on the coast and first reliefs. Values of 34°C are expected in Carros and between 32 and 33°C on the coast. The valleys should experience slightly lower temperatures.
Particularly warm nights
The situation will also be marked by high minimum temperatures. The night from Tuesday to Wednesday is expected to be particularly warm. Temperatures should remain between 26 and 28°C, particularly in Nice.
The Alpes-Maritimes prefecture reminds that the risks primarily concern elderly people, people with chronic illnesses or mental health disorders, people undergoing regular medical treatment, as well as isolated individuals.
Physical and professional outdoor activities also require particular caution due to risks of dehydration and heat stroke. Children are also among the populations to monitor.
Facing this heat wave episode, authorities recommend drinking water regularly, limiting outdoor activities during the hottest hours, and spending several hours a day in cool or air-conditioned places. The prefecture also invites residents to check on vulnerable people in their circle and to contact a doctor in case of discomfort or behavioral disorders.
The orange alert episode is expected to last at least until Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
