Heatwave Alert: The Municipal Social Action Center Mobilized

Latest News

Thus, depending on the target groups, several measures have been implemented to protect, assist, and support each citizen:

For the elderly:

The 1,633 individuals registered on the list of isolated vulnerable people have received a voice message today to raise awareness about the heatwave alert. A phone call, along with a possible home visit if deemed necessary by the agent, will assess the assistance required for the person’s health condition and provide a suitable response (those assigned to make home visits are equipped with an identification card to present upon arrival).

In EHPADs (residential care facilities for dependent elderly individuals) and EHPAs (independent living residences)

The Blue Plan has been automatically activated in all establishments managed by the CCAS of Nice. It includes specific actions for hydration of elderly individuals (tracking and recording resident hydration, adapted menus, etc.), care (showers, misting, increased blood pressure monitoring), and support in a cool room (each establishment has an air-conditioned area).

It should be noted that vulnerable individuals (elderly or disabled) from outside the establishment can be welcomed in air-conditioned spaces to cool down.

For people in a situation of extreme poverty

Additional food assistance is provided to the homeless population and those in extreme poverty at the XVth Corps day center, in the form of food parcels to compensate for the reduction in outreach efforts conducted by associations grouped under Inter Secours Nice (ISN) during the summer.

There is a distribution of water bottles, caps, and sunscreen at the various reception areas. Additionally, accommodation in all air-conditioned spaces is available: day and night reception.

For younger individuals

For young children under 3 years of age, instructions have been reiterated since the alert was issued for all open services. The heatwave plan has been emailed to municipal childminders and managers of open facilities.

It is particularly emphasized not to take children outside between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and to engage in outdoor water games before and after these times. During outdoor activities, staff adheres to sun protection guidelines (hat and sunscreen) and ensures hydration every hour and as often as necessary.

Advice for every citizen

Every citizen can visit air-conditioned places for a few hours to cool down: cinemas, libraries, swimming pools, large supermarkets.
