The attack at the church of Saint-Etienne-de-Rouvray in Normandy has alerted the concerned local authorities, the Prefecture and the Diocese.
Measures have been agreed upon between Prefect Adolphe Colrat and the Vicar General, Father Jean-Louis Gazzaniga, replacing Bishop Andrรฉ Marceau, who is currently traveling in Poland, and adopted or strengthened to ensure the security of places of worship.
The prefecture confirms that the same measures are applicable to places of worship of other faiths.
The measures are as follows:
Notifying the internal security forces and mayors of the most significant gatherings;
Posting “alert attack” signs at the entrance of buildings and renewing particular vigilance of the people involved in the activities of the places of worship;
Implementing situational prevention measures (limiting the number of access points, using video surveillance in the vicinity);
Immediate reporting on “17” of events affecting security;
Vigilance by the National Police, the Gendarmerie Nationale, the military personnel of the Sentinelle operation if necessary, and municipal police around the main places of worship during services.
