Every year, Nice makes the Heritage Days a highlight for discovering its rich profane or sacred, institutional or traditional heritage, with an ever-growing public attending the event.
This 31st edition, themed “Cultural heritage, natural heritage,” will be a new opportunity to (re)discover and appreciate the numerous riches of the Niçois landscape.
Christian Estrosi, Deputy Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, in the presence of Jean-Luc Gag, Municipal Councillor delegated to Heritage, will open the doors of his office to welcome the public.
The City of Nice has devised a program with some new tours, visits to sites usually closed to the public, concerts, and conferences.
Download the complete program at the bottom of the page.
●●● Nature at the heart of the city
Guided tours will lead you to discover the hills of the Castle and Cimiez, Mount Alban and its Fort, the Valrose Castle park, all rich with centuries-old human history and an even older biodiversity.
●●● Nod to 14-18
The Urbanism and Architecture Forum will present an original focus on the Great War with urban walks in the heart of the Notre-Dame and Cimiez-south districts, exploring buildings constructed between 1900 and 1913, some of which have a particular relationship with the surrounding nature.
●●● Museums going green
Through their collections and temporary exhibitions, municipal museums invite you to appreciate the ties woven between nature and culture.
The Museum of Natural History will honor the great Niçois scientist, Jean-Baptiste Barla, one of the first to reveal the importance of our regional natural heritage. At the Archaeology Museum, workshops will introduce children to ancient gestures, those of prehistoric art, as well as those of the potter.
The MAMAC will offer a green route on its terraces and provide the rare opportunity to view the impressive “Fire Wall” by Yves Klein illuminated. A route through the “Julião Sarmento” exhibition will also highlight human nature. The Museum of Fine Arts will present a tribute exhibition to the painter Jules-Henri Lengrand, who extensively explored nature as well.
At the Masséna Museum, discover the work of students from the Lycée Pasteur who perpetuate the tradition of Niçois marquetry, an invaluable craftsmanship, creating true masterpieces made from local woods like lemon tree.
●●● Acropolis Anniversary
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of this establishment dedicated to business tourism and shows, come discover the backstage of the Nice Convention Center.
Six conferences on the national theme will also be offered inside the Municipal Council chamber, this Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm.
For the first time, the archaeological Crypt will be opened freely to the public, at night (6 pm/10 pm). At the Municipal Archives, thanks to the exhibition “Around the Marble Palace, the Fabron Villas and their gardens…,” you can discover the building and gardens registered on the historical monuments inventory.
The protected sector of Old Nice will not be forgotten with the opening of baroque churches and chapels as well as the Lascaris Palace.
