Reports of anti-LGBT incidents on the Internet continue to rise. In 2013, they accounted for more than one in two reports collected in the annual report of SOS Homophobie, marking an increase of 162% compared to the previous year.
Unfortunately, it is almost commonplace for homosexuality to provoke insulting or hateful comments on the Internet, as it is easy for the authors to hide behind the anonymity of a pseudonym.
This fight on the Web requires the mobilization of everyone, starting with the social networks themselves, which must be more proactive by raising awareness among their users and quickly removing clearly illegal comments.
Internet users can also report any anti-LGBT comments on the Internet to SOS Homophobie via an online form (www.soshomophobie.org/temoigner).
Thanks to the joint work of SOS Homophobie and Twitter, several of these hashtags have been removed from the list of trending topics (the most discussed subjects on the social network).
SOS Homophobie reminds that the removal of these comments does not exempt their authors from responsibility and that legal action can be initiated in parallel.
