Until October 16th, the city of Nice is organizing a series of events to discuss mental health. Conferences, booths, and meetings aim to raise public awareness around a central theme: “For our mental health, let’s repair social connections.”
In a context where isolation is increasing, mental health is becoming a collective issue. In Nice, the 36th edition of the Mental Health Information Weeks (SISM) emphasizes the need to rebuild human connections. Until Thursday the 16th, the municipality and the Local Mental Health Council (CLSM) are multiplying awareness actions.
Objective: to better inform about existing resources, encourage dialogue, and bring residents closer to listening and support structures.
According to the World Health Organization, one in four people will experience a mental disorder in their lifetime. Mental health is not merely the absence of illness. It also involves the ability to live peacefully, face challenges, and find one’s place in society. In the capital of the Riviera, several events open to everyone are organized with institutional and associative partners.
Rethink the collective, repair connections
The highlight of these weeks: the conference on Monday, October 13th at the Garibaldi House of Associations. Starting at 9 a.m., professionals, associations, and citizens will discuss social connections.
The morning will begin with a presentation on its evolution, followed by a talk on psychosocial rehabilitation. Two panel discussions will then allow for different perspectives: the first on personal reconstruction through relationships with others, the second on combating isolation. These discussions will bring together psychologists, field actors, and local associations, including Jโaime Nice, Le Phare des 2 Pรดles, SOS Amitiรฉs, and ISATIS. They all advocate for the same idea: reconnecting with others can be a key step toward well-being.
On Tuesday, October 14th, the Saint-Jean dโAngรฉly Campus will host the Mental Health Village. Around twenty booths will offer information on prevention, access to care, mutual support, and the rights of those concerned. The aim of this event is to make mental health more accessible and encourage everyone to get informed, whether they are directly concerned, close to someone affected, or simply curious.
The SISM will close on Thursday, October 16th, with a well-being day organized by ISATIS’s SAMSAH. Relaxation, activities, and friendliness will be at the heart of this meeting, designed as a moment of exchange and appreciation.
This collective effort also aims to combat prejudices. Talking about mental health often remains difficult. The stigma persists, despite the common nature of stress, depression, or anxiety in everyday life. These information weeks create a space for exchange where everyone can find listening ears and guidance.
Beyond the events, the challenge is to establish a culture of kindness for the long term. By promoting encounters and dialogue, Nice aims to encourage a more supportive society, where human connection regains its rightful place.
