For the second consecutive year, Le Rouret, the departmental capital of truffles, is hosting the inaugural market for the truffle season in the Alpes-Maritimes this Sunday.
This major event will be held in the village square, from 10 AM to 5 PM, in an authentic Provençal setting. A gourmet outing idea to recommend!
All the country’s specialties will be on display, blending tradition and passion: award-winning products based on Rouret olives, local wines, perfumed oils, gastronomic dishes, spices, and saffron… to be savored at the stands. But above all, the truffle, the enigmatic Tuber Melanosporum, will take center stage…
The Confrérie des Rabassiers (the Provençal name for truffle growers) will be present in traditional attire. New members (starred chefs, personalities…) will be solemnly welcomed into its ranks during the official induction ceremony.
Then, preceded by a Provençal folk group, the Confrérie will visit the market accompanied by the public. Finally, at noon in the Saint-Pons church, there will be a blessing of the Confrérie’s banner and the truffle harvest.
After the celebration, an original charity auction will be held on the church square: black truffles, generously offered by the Alpes-Maritimes Truffle Growers Syndicate, will be weighed and sold to benefit the Red Cross charity organization.
Finally, in the afternoon, truffle dogs will demonstrate their expertise and formidable scent in unearthing the precious mushroom from underground.
This inaugural market is part of a long history between the commune and the black truffle: for 16 years, Le Rouret, whose emblem is the oak tree, has hosted a large tract of land dedicated to truffle farming.
