Sunday, June 4, 2023, Anthony Borré, First Deputy in charge of Proximity, Security, Housing, and Urban Renewal, unveiled the plaque of “Allée Jules Isaac” for the pedestrian walkway of the Promenade du Paillon. This is a tribute to the French historian and man of peace, Jules Isaac, who contributed greatly to the easing of relations between Jews and Christians.

In the face of those who propose wokism or want to rename our holidays to challenge our Judeo-Christian history, we will never be among those who weaken. We, along with Christian Estrosi, defend a vision of secularism where everyone is respected in their faith.

Jules Isaac, born in 1877 and passed away in 1963, is recognized for his key role in promoting interfaith dialogue and Judeo-Christian friendship. He was the founder of the Amitié Judeo-Chrétienne de France (AJCF), an organization aimed at fostering understanding and cooperation between the two communities. Recently, the AJCF expressed its desire to pay tribute to Jules Isaac by dedicating a public place in his name, in recognition of his peaceful commitment.

Thus, this new plaque, located in front of the Lycée Masséna and previously unnamed, gives a new dimension to this space, granting it a strong symbolism linked to the fight against antisemitism and discrimination.

During the inauguration ceremony, Anthony Borré expressed his honor in inaugurating the Allée Jules Isaac, while reminding the public of the necessity to remain vigilant against acts of hate and discrimination, and called for the continuation of the fight for a more just and tolerant world. Furthermore, he stated that it is our duty to pursue Jules Isaac’s mission in the face of antisemitism, the rising acts against Christians, and any form of discrimination.
