Independent Bookstore Day: Celebration of Culture and Poetry

Latest News

Saturday, April 27 will mark the 26th edition of the Independent Bookstore Day, a major event celebrated in more than 600 bookstores in French-speaking France, Belgium, and Switzerland, including 49 located in the PACA region.

For this 26th edition, the Bookstore Day will pay tribute to the great poet Jacques Roubaud and the visual artist Edi Dubien by offering visitors a beautiful, unpublished book where the works of the two artists engage in a magical poetry around the animal world.

For over 26 years, the Bookstore Day, supported by independent booksellers, has been a true stronghold defending the bookseller’s trade. As artisans of culture, they play an essential role in preserving the diversity of ideas, promoting creativity, and safeguarding freedom of expression.

The Verbes association, organizer of the event, aims to convey to the public an aspect of the history and culture of books through this work. Celebrating poetry in all its splendor, the book republishes 20 poems by Jacques Roubaud, a major figure of the OuLiPo movement, known for his ability to bring out the magic of the French language through his words. Illustrated by painter Edi Dubien, each poem is enhanced by 20 new drawings, creating a unique artistic and literary experience.
