Intergenerational sports sessions in Nice

Latest News

Bringing children and seniors together through sports. This is a clearly stated goal for the first edition of the chicks and seniors in shape operation. An event in line with the seniors in shape movement offered all year round to residents of Nice over 60 years of age.

Yesterday at Villa Thiole, for the first session, more than 80 seniors, 40 children, and their childcare assistants gathered in good spirits for a gentle gym session led by karate champion Sonia Fiuza.

The novelty of the chicks and seniors edition lies in the presence of children from family daycare. Accompanied by childcare assistants, they will join seniors in municipal gardens to participate in weekly sports classes.

The sessions are conducted by specialized instructors from the city of Nice. On the program are weekly gentle gym classes, such as tai chi, held in various open-air locations across the city. A concept that is popular in Asian countries.

In Japan, daily gym exercises are ingrained in the culture. Adapting this system to the West is challenging, but locally, there is demand. This intergenerational session could introduce children to sports from an early age.

A boon for parents relieved to be able to leave their children with trusted individuals.

For seniors, it is an opportunity to share meaningful moments with children while enjoying a sports class. A concept where each party benefits.

The challenge remains to attract the necessary attendance for the success of the project.
