This Wednesday, on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the “Collective for Women’s Rights 06″* is calling for a gathering at Place Garibaldi at 6:30 PM* to “shout out anger and demands.”
In France, there were 142,310 complaints of domestic violence in 2019, which is 16% more than in 2018. The lockdown further accelerated the violence suffered, with a 15% increase in calls during the last period to the 39 19 platform, which supports victims of gender-based and sexual violence.
In case of problems, victims have the freedom to leave their homes at any time without needing a certificate. They can call 17 or use 114 by SMS in case of immediate danger.
Numerous platforms are available to victims of violence:
- A website is available 24/7 with an anonymous and untraceable chat: https://arretonslesviolences.gouv.fr/
- The “APP-ELLES” application for support among women: https://www.app-elles.fr/
- A free chat: www.commentonsaime.fr
- The “Pharmacy Alert” system, which allows individuals to signal in a pharmacy. The pharmacy in turn alerts the police;
- 119 is available for children (free call 24/7);
- 01 40 47 06 06 (available Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 7 PM) is available to women with disabilities.
For the Collective for Women’s Rights, the current crises reveal and increase the extent of sexist violence, whether it be verbal, physical, sexual, economic, or social.
“The most female-dominated sectors, although recognized as essential, are among the most undervalued and underpaid!” This is their accusation cry.
