The Skirt Day, this Thursday, November 25, 2010, at 9:45 AM: More than 170 middle and high school students will participate in the film screening-debates.
Thursday, November 25, at 9:45 AM at the Mercury Cinema, on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Mr. Eric Ciotti, Deputy and President of the General Council, will welcome 88 students from the Jules Romains, Risso, and Jean Rostand middle schools in Nice to participate in the film screening-debate of “La Journรฉe de la jupe”.
Planned as part of initiatives to combat and prevent gender-based violence among young people, this event is organized in partnership with the departmental mission of the Women’s and Family Rights Information Center.
Raising Awareness among Young People about Women’s Rights and Equality
This initiative follows the increasing decline in boy-girl relationships. It aims, through the screening of this film, to generate discussions on respect, relations between boys and girls, as well as sexist deviations both in and outside of school. Following this screening, a debate will be led by professionals.

Sonia Bergerac is a French teacher in a tough suburban school. She struggles with the daily harshness of interactions with her students and is further weakened by her husband’s departure. During a theater rehearsal with one of her classes, she finds a gun in a student’s bag. When she tries to seize it, a shot is fired, injuring a student in the leg. In the confusion, she breaks down and takes her class hostage. While outside, the school, police, and political authorities struggle to understand and respond to the situation, Sonia imposes her vision and their contradictions on her students.
