On Monday, May 6, 2024, the Alpes-Maritimes Department inaugurated the launch of the free shuttle “Lou Passagin”, in the presence of Eric Ciotti, deputy and chairman of the Finance Commission of the Alpes-Maritimes department. This Passagin was initially created in the 1920s to allow dockworkers to cross the port. It was later discontinued in the 1960s. This summer again, as for the past eleven years, the Alpes-Maritimes department is offering this free service.

Every summer since 2012, the people of Nice, the French Riviera residents, and tourists have had the opportunity to reconnect with the tradition of the “Passagin”. From the very start of its operation, the crossing of the port of Nice met with huge success, transporting over 500,000 passengers. “Lou Passagin” links both sides of Port Lympia, that is, the Infernet and Entrecasteaux quays. During the summer season, the shuttle will provide free rotations every day, without interruption, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“Lou Passagin” carries out the crossing between the two banks of the port of Nice. The boat is a traditional fishing boat from the Mediterranean Provence that operates with two electric motors, meeting sustainable development requirements. “This boat has an environmental purpose because it is electric. It allows people to discover the Lympia basin while reviving an old tradition that has marked the port of Nice,” adds deputy Eric Ciotti.
