It takes place in the hinterland: The Chestnut Festival in Valdeblore.

The concern was visible on people’s faces because the next day was the Chestnut Festival, and what a festival it is! Every year, itโ€™s truly wonderful to stroll through the village of La Bolline Valdeblore. Throughout the day, numerous stands featuring local and artisanal products, as well as exhibitions in the Clรดt hall, are offered, all enlivened by musical groups such as Li Barragnas, Li Mures, and La Clico di Esteves.

In the company of Mr. Fernand BLANCHI, General Councillor and Mayor of Valdeblore, a man who loves his villageโ€”remember that he secured the construction of a Mountain Vocational High Schoolโ€”we attended the mass held in the Chapel of the White Penitents at the center of the village, where one can admire a magnificent gilded wooden statue of the Virgin, a gift from the Berringer family, residents of La Bolline Valdeblore for 70 years.

In a distant past, chestnuts were the main source of income for the inhabitants of Valdeblore. Trucks would come to load tons of chestnuts to make flour, as Valdeblore was one of the largest producers. Currently, only 3 or 4 farmers continue to maintain their chestnut groves. For the past twenty years, we have been holding the “Chestnut Festival,” which attracts a large crowd arriving by bus or private vehicle. Under a large marquee, a friendly meal is served. Here is the menu:

Chestnut Kir, Charcuterie plate, Doe stew, Polenta, Cheese, Chestnut cake, fruit, rosรฉ and red wine, coffee.

We invite you to join us next year. Just one hour from Nice, you too can take part in this festival.
