Jean-François Kahn, writer and co-founder of Marianne, will host a roundtable discussion on the theme “Crises of Yesterday, Crisis of Today” with Jacques Marseille, economic historian, professor at Paris I University, author of “On the Proper Use of Civil War in France,” and Liêm Hoang-Ngoc, economist, lecturer at Paris I University, author of “Sarkonomics.”

In recent months, the international crisis has led many decision-makers to demand more substantial interventions from governments or central banks. As in 1929, these events are analyzed as a crisis of the excesses of capitalism… but is this truly the exact truth?

This question is at the heart of the debate proposed by Jean-François Kahn: “Are we experiencing a new economic cataclysm like in 1929, whose offspring were fascism and Stalinism, or are we witnessing a simple cyclical and temporary crisis as capitalism has often experienced and always known how to resolve by transcending them? Is capitalism possible with the constant reformation of speculative bubbles whose bursting shakes its very foundations? Is it enough to rebuild it, or is it about thinking of another society?”

The various participants will sign their books at 5:30 PM.
