Jean-Robert Lefèvre, the new strongman of the General Council of the Alpes Maritimes

Latest News

This appointment is based on three criteria: his education, his experience in administration — 32 years serving the Alpes-Maritimes in contact with elected officials and all institutions — and solid trust.

Mr. Jean-Robert Lefèvre has a triple higher education background: scientific, financial management of local authorities, and management.

This educational path has allowed him to hold many positions in the State and then within the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes for over 30 years. He began his administrative career in 1974 as an environmental research officer, then joined the Departmental Directorate of Equipment in 1978, before moving to the General Council in 1988. Since then, he has held several responsibilities under the presidency of Mr. Christian Estrosi. He was notably responsible for relations with institutions to develop planning contracts, project contracts, and all partnerships with the European community, the Region, the municipalities, the countries of southern Europe…

In his most recent position, Deputy Director General for Development, he was in charge of the economy, territorial planning, transportation, ports, housing, culture, sports, education, environment, sustainable development, institutional relations, planning contracts, and European affairs (1,500 staff — a budget of 250 million euros).

His professional experience has given him a perfect knowledge of Alpes-Maritimes, local authorities, socio-economic actors…

But the most decisive element of this choice is the trust that Mr. Christian Estrosi places in Mr. Jean-Robert Lefèvre. Indeed, the two men have known each other for 25 years.

On September 16, 1990, the day after Mr. Jacques Médecin’s resignation from the mayoralty of Nice, Mr. Christian Estrosi announced that he was resigning from the City Council. Mr. Jean-Robert Lefèvre, who was also elected from the City of Nice at the time, immediately followed him in this step. Since then, the relationship between the two men, whose careers, one political and the other administrative, have always intertwined, has been strengthened on the values of trust, loyalty, and fidelity.

Furthermore, Mr. Jean-Robert Lefèvre is a reserve officer in the National Navy, a knight in the National Order of Merit and the Order of Academic Palms, and a gold medalist in Youth and Sports.

Mr. Jean-Robert Lefèvre will take office at the beginning of August 2007.
