This evening at 7:30 PM at the Mamac Auditorium, the opening ceremony of the 9th In&Out Film Encounters, the gay and lesbian film festival organized by the association Les Ouvreurs, will take place.

It will be followed by the screening of the film Kiki by Sara Jordenô.

On the verge of a decade of existence, this festival aims to renew itself: more concise, more incisive in its choices but always open to the widest possible audience.

In these uncertain times, where culture is no longer a central concern, where the fight for equal rights for LGBT people is stalling, the chosen theme “dissent” is anything but rhetorical.

For Benoît Arnulf, the festival’s artistic director, “dissent is resistance. The impetus that allows us to stand out from authorities, systems of domination, and mainstream thoughts might be sought from our elders.”

“Like a phoenix of the struggle reborn from its ashes, dissent involves itself wherever minority positions produce rejection and violence, of which young people are often the primary victims. Dissent operates as a survival mode against the homophobia prevailing in many parts of the world,” is his message, which is embedded in a future that must rise on these values so that everyone can live their lives in a context without prejudice.
