Launch of a Steering Committee on Sports Governance

Latest News

Developing sports practices widely is a central commitment of the sports project for France, which will host the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

To meet this ambition, Minister Laura Flessel has launched a mission to rethink the organization of French sports with increased autonomy for the sports movement by clarifying the roles of the State and local authorities.

To this end, it is necessary to co-construct a shared governance model, with responsibilities distributed between the State, the sports movement, local authorities, and private partners.

This is the purpose of the Steering Committee, which includes the State: Ministry of Sports, Ministry of Solidarity and Health, Ministry of Public Action and Accounts, Ministry of National Education, and the General Secretariat of the Social Ministries
local authorities: Association of Regions of France, Assembly of Departments of France, Association of Mayors of France and Presidents of Intercommunalities, and Urban France; and for the sports movement: the French National Olympic and Sports Committee, the French Paralympic and Sports Committee, a president representing the Olympic federations, and a president representing the non-Olympic federations, along with several qualified individuals.

This Steering Committee, chaired by the Minister of Sports, has adopted the principle of six thematic seminars to be held from January to June 2018, bringing together sports world actors, elected officials, public service executives, social partners, researchers, and business actors.

These seminars will lead to several proposals for a new institutional and organizational framework for sports in France.

This work will contribute to a future legislative project for the development of sports in society.
