APREMAS (cancer screening coordination center) is organizing the launch of the international month of breast cancer screening awareness: “Pink October,” a national mobilization campaign launched by the National Cancer Institute.
Moïse Namer, President of APREMAS, oncologist: It is important to know and to spread the knowledge that eight out of ten detected cancers will be cured.
This event, the starting point of a series of events to be held throughout October in the Alpes-Maritimes (details of which will be presented on this launch day), will bring together on Place Pierre Gautier all associations, organizations, clinics, and hospitals concerned with breast cancer and its prevention in the Alpes-Maritimes and the Principality of Monaco.
Professionals will be there to engage with the public in a simple and friendly atmosphere.
Remember that there are at least 3 good reasons to participate in organized screening:
- It’s an excellent health habit: if all women aged 50 to 74 participated, nearly 3,000 lives could be saved each year.
- It offers high-quality monitoring: because an additional opinion is never too much, a second expert radiologist reviews the mammograms.
- The mammogram is 100% covered: as part of organized screening, women don’t have to advance money for this examination.
In the Alpes-Maritimes department alone, 170,000 women aged 50 to 74 regularly receive letters inviting them to undergo a mammogram using the APREMAS double reading process.
