Until December 31, 2011, within the framework of the “Smart City” project, the CUM will be undergoing renovations. This is an opportunity for the City of Nice to equip the CUM with equipment that allows for the live broadcast of conferences or events, both on-site and online.

This program was designed to refurbish both the façade and the interior of this building that was bequeathed to the City of Nice in 1878.
To enhance the building’s waterproofing, the following are planned:
- Renovation of wooden frames and wooden roller shutters;
- Repairing the tiled roof;
- Renovation of the façade;
- Painting the ceiling and walls after renovating the fresco;
- Painting the walls and renovating the acoustic fabric panels;
- Replacing the floor covering;
- Renovation of lighting installations.
The total cost of this operation is €800,000 inclusive of tax.
The total duration of these works, which began on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, is estimated at 4 months. The CUM will therefore reopen its doors in January 2012.

During this period, several alternative venues will host the activities usually held at the CUM.
