A beautiful event with activities centered around the oil and olives of Nice is organized by the Syndicat Interprofessionnel de l’Olive de Nice (SION) on Saturday, June 25, from 9:30 AM to 11 PM, at Rouret.
The Syndicat Interprofessionnel de l’Olive de Nice “SION” invites you to a grand event at Rouret on Saturday, June 25, starting at 9:30 AM.
The Controlled Designation of Origin “Olive de Nice” was established on April 20, 2010, by decree. This serves as a specification document and defines the conditions for the production and processing of the Olive de Nice. The designation area covers 99 municipalities in the department and not just the Nice municipality.
It was in 2004, to comply with European legislation, that the olive oil from Nice obtained its own designation, and the production was also recognized as PDO at the European level, thus it is referred to as Protected Designation of Origin.
There are indeed 2 designations of origin for 3 olive products:
- “PDO Olive Oil of Nice” for olive oil.
- “PDO Olive of Nice” for table olives and olive paste.
To safeguard the olive heritage, Le Rouret welcomes you to:
9:30 AM – Official opening of the event, free entry.
10:00 AM – On-site preparation of Olive de Nice PDO paste.
10:30 AM – Culinary demonstration by the students of the Hôtelier School of Nice: mini pan-bagnat with PDO Olive Oil of Nice and local verrines with PDO Olive Paste of Nice.
11:30 AM – Inauguration of the event and prize ceremony for the departmental contest of olive products in origin designation “Oil and Olive of Nice.”
3:00 PM – Demonstration of olive tree pruning by professionals.
4:30 PM – On-site preparation of Olive de Nice PDO paste.
5:00 PM – Culinary demonstration with Chef Daniel Ettlinger from Clos St Pierre du Rouret.
6:00 PM – Olive pit spitting contest for children and adults.
8:00 PM – Dinner under the plane trees (registrations on site).
Of course, there will be musical entertainment throughout the day with the Provençal folk group Aigo Vivo, the fifes and drums of the group Lou Mourtairet, and the jazz group Shaker Swing.
Other activities will take place throughout the day with the market open to the public from 9:30 AM to 11 PM: sale of olive oil, table olives, and olive pastes only in PDO, regional products (wines, honey, jams, fruits, vegetables… from olive growers).
Introduction to tasting with an oil bar. Catering and refreshments on site. Handicrafts around the olive tree: olive wood, paintings, photographs, olive flower confectionery.
Demonstration of olive wood carving, exhibition and sale of olive trees, exhibition by AFIDOL “the olive tree, a mythical tree”, Art and Heritage, Screening of the film “the olive tree, King of the Mediterranean.”
But also games, quizzes at the booth of the Syndicate of Olives of Nice with gift boxes of the 3 PDO products of Nice to be won.
