Titled “Reading for All,” this initiative aims to prevent illiteracy through meetings between writers and various audiences.
This Tuesday, December 12, Wednesday, December 13, and Thursday, December 14, it will be Franz-Olivier Giesbert who will engage with diverse audiences.
Franz-Olivier Giesbert was born in 1949, in Wilmington, Delaware, in the United States, to an American father and a French mother. He moved to France at the age of three. After contributing to the literary page of Paris-Normandie, he joined the Nouvel Observateur in 1971. He was successively a political journalist, chief reporter, Washington correspondent, head of the political department, and became editor-in-chief of the weekly magazine starting in 1985. In 1988, he was appointed editor-in-chief of Figaro. In 2000, he became director of Le Point, a position he left in March 2014, but remains an editorialist and advisor to the magazine’s editorial team.
Starting in 1997, he hosted several literary or cultural shows and “Les Grandes questions” on France 5 until 2015. He is also a member of the jury for the Prix Renaudot, the Prix Aujourd’hui, the Prix du Quai des Orfรจvres, and others.
Franz-Olivier Giesbert is the author of around fifteen novels, including “L’affreux,” which won the Grand Prix du Roman from the Acadรฉmie Franรงaise in 1992, and “La souille,” which won the Interalliรฉ Prize in 1995. He recently published with Gallimard editions “Dieu, ma mรจre et moi” in 2012, “La cuisiniรจre dโHimmler” in 2014, and “LโArracheuse de dents” in 2016, which earned him the Rรฉcamier novel prize. This year, he published “Le thรฉรขtre des incapables” (Albin Michel) and “Belle dโamour” (Gallimard, Prix Terre des Templiers).
