Liberté Chérie, in partnership with the association A.C.L., is organizing a conference on one of the major themes related to the presidential election: “Giving the people a voice again to overcome the crisis through direct democracy.”
This conference will be held on Friday, February 10 at 6 pm – Salle Roger Ferrière in Saint Laurent-du-Var (on the Esplanade du Levant, near the town hall).
The guests are Benoîte Taffin (spokesperson for Contribuables Associés, former UDF-RPR Mayor of the 2nd arrondissement of Paris) and Yvan Blot (Doctor of Economic Sciences, former deputy of Pas-de-Calais, author).
This conference, organized with the support of the municipality of Saint-Laurent-du-Var, will provide an opportunity to learn more about direct democracy: “Little known in France, direct democracy is applied in several foreign countries, including Switzerland, Germany, and the United States for over a century. Very close to the ideal of direct people’s involvement in political decisions, the popular initiative is particularly developed in Switzerland, California, and other American states. This mechanism allows citizens to propose laws that are then voted on by all voters. In Switzerland, the federal authorities can also propose a counter-project and voters can choose to vote for either project or for or against both projects.”
