Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes: An edition marked by sharing and emotion!

The Kenyan, Elisha Kipchichir, won the 2016 edition of the Nice-Cannes marathon in 2h10’45”. The first woman is Ethiopian. Biruk Tilahun ran the 42 kilometers in 2h37’56”.

But the real winner was the Marathon itself, the race that was able to take place and was held without the slightest incident. There were 14,000 participants starting from the Allianz Riviera this Sunday morning.

The spectacle also took place outside the race, along the course, with thousands of spectators who came in large numbers to encourage and support these heroes for a day.

Happy, the mayor of Cannes, David Lisnard, who participated (bib number 98 – 3h11’22”) commented: “It was important to run this marathon. For the Cรดte d’Azur, on the day of the commemoration of the Paris attacks, it was unthinkable for the Nice-Cannes marathon not to take place.”

Unlike his usual self, bib number 06 of Christian Estrosi did not appear at the starting line: ‘The Times They Are A-Changin’ as Bob Dylan sang, the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature recipient. Best wishes.

Notably on the French side, the very impressive performances of the first French runner, Sylvain ROTA in 2h34’15” and the first regional runner, Frรฉdรฉric GAYOL in 2h43’44”.

The first local woman, Pascale MALLURET, finished in 3h23’42”.
